Little Sand Bay
2024, oil on canvas, 16" x 20"
In 1927, Leo, Roy, and Eskel Hokenson started the Hokenson Brothers Fishery, a small family-owned business on the shore of Lake Superior at Little Sand Bay. The commercial fishing operation thrived in the Apostle Islands and lasted for more than 30 years. The twine shed, pile driver, dock and herring shed remain, along with many other interpretive displays. Little Sand Bay is part of the National Park Service and the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
