Pioneers
2023, oil on gessobord, 16" x 20"
Birch trees are known as a pioneer species because they easily regenerate habitats destroyed by fire. With a short lifespan, Birch are hardy, quick growing, and relatively immune to disease and insects. The species is important in reforestation and erosion control, and also provides protective cover for development of a wide variety of more permanent plants.
