Autumnal

2024, oil on gessobord, 16" x 20"

The fiery reds and oranges of autumn leaves are symbolic of the passion, warmth and intensity of life. The cycle of seasons mirrors the cycle of our existence. Autumn is a time when the sun crosses the equator signaling shorter days, while teaching us the importance of letting go of the past and embracing the inevitability of change.

"The leaves as they spark into wild color just before they die are the world's oldest performance art, and everything we see is celebrating one last violently hued hurrah before the black and white silence of winter." — Shauna Niequist
